
The Alberta Wildlife Rehabilitators’ Association will promote and monitor wildlife rehabilitation in the Province of Alberta through education and unified standards.
Our mission:
- Maintain the “AWRA Minimum Standards for Wildlife Rehabilitation”
- Work with government agencies to standardize regulations and monitor the operations of wildlife rehabilitation centres
- Work with veterinarians and other wildlife rehabilitation organizations in the development of new knowledge, techniques and technology for the care and rehabilitation of displaced wildlife
- Assist rehabilitation centres with facility reviews to maintain permitting requirements
- Facilitate communication among rehabilitation centres, and between the rehabilitation centres and government agencies
- Promote appreciation of wildlife through the dissemination of knowledge and information about them
- Establish a code of ethics for our members to follow and they are to:
- achieve high standards of wildlife care
- exhibit dedicated, conscientious and responsible behaviour
- establish good, safe work habits within the guidelines of current health and safety practices
- share skills and knowledge with other rehabilitators
- enlist the services of veterinarians
- employ educational programs to prevent further losses to wildlife population
- establish guidelines for evaluating and improving rehabilitation efforts
- allow for variations in methods of rehabilitation
- encourage community support
