Membership Information

AWRA members are committed to acting as responsible trustees in preserving and maintaining ourRed Squirrel photo by Robert Berdan natural world. They recognize the burden of stewardship in promoting sound co-operative conservation, preservation and ecological principals.

Membership is open to any person or organization wishing to support the association.

Membership fees are $25 per calendar year and are due in January.

Membership categories are assigned by the Board depending on the information provided on the membership form.

Associate Member
This is any individual or organization that wishes to support wildlife rehabilitation, but does not actively participate in wildlife rehabilitation. This is a non-voting membership and Associate members are not eligible for election to the Board.

Active Rehabilitator
This is an Alberta resident who actively practices wildlife rehabilitation. They must be thoroughly familiar with the broad spectrum of techniques, procedures and approaches to wildlife rehabilitation and display a continued willingness to learn. They must have served as an Intern Rehabilitator or have a minimum of three years verifiable equivalent experience.

Intern Rehabilitator
This is an Alberta resident who wishes to actively participate and can satisfy the prerequisites of the Association. This category is for individuals with limited wildlife rehabilitation experience who desire the opportunity to broaden the scope of their wildlife knowledge and experience. They have passed the International Wildlife Rehabilitators’ Council’s Basic course or have verifiable equivalent experience. An Intern Rehabilitator has voting privileges and is eligible for election to the Board.

Associate Rehabilitator
This is an individual who is working under the auspices of an active rehabilitator or has demonstrated an interest in wildlife rehabilitation. This category is for individuals who work with and learn from an experienced practicing wildlife rehabilitator or to provide an opportunity to those who have knowledge and skills that support and promote wildlife rehabilitation.

Rehabilitation Facility Member
This is an Alberta licensed wildlife rehabilitation facility that wishes to be properly represented in wildlife issues that impact them directly. They must have applicable provincial and federal permits and abide by the Code of Ethics and Minimum Standards as determined by an inspection by a delegate of the Board of Directors. An facility member has a one vote and is not eligible for election to the Board.
